The Little Black Dress

So today were talking about the most classic trend in fashion history.. The little black dress. Here are some tips on how to dress your body type:
  • Bottom-heavy
If you are bottom-heavy, choose fuller skirts to disguise a thicker middle while highlighting the waist. Strapless dresses will take attention off the middle and draw the eye upward.
  • Apple-shaped
People with this shape should wear low-cut necklines to thin out a fuller figure. Avoid clingy fabrics and high necklines.
  • Pear-shaped or Thick-Wasted
Opt for an empire waistline. Empire waistbands fall just under the bust, to bring the focus up and emphasize the smallest part of your waistline. Avoid dresses with open pleated or tapered skirts.
  • Broad-shouldered
Choose asymmetrical necklines to flatter your shoulders. Avoid sleeves with a lot of volume and big collars.
  • Large-chested
Look for v and square necklines to balance out your figure. Also, choose dresses with plain tops, as embellishments in the chest area will only add weight. Three-quarter length sleeves also balance out a heavier top. Avoid high necklines, thin straps, and bulky fabrics.
  • Small-Chested
Wear tops that have volume, such as ruffles or embellishments on the bust to enhance your chest. Choose something with a cinched waist to flatter the upper body.
  • Petite
Purchase a dress with a lot of visual interest in the seaming and the cut of the neck to add shape. Ball gowns are also flattering for this body type.
  • Not Very Curvy
Choose a dress with fuller sleeves or layers and ruffles to add curves where your body lacks them. Wrap dresses also add the illusion of curves.
  • Short with a Long Torso
Choose dresses with visual interest by your face to bring the eye up. Also opt for straight skirts and accessorize with a high heel. Avoid dresses with a dropped waist.
  • Tall with a Short Torso
Choose dresses that have embellishments along the length of your legs or at the bottom seam to draw visual interest to your length. Dresses that have darker colors on top and lighter colors on the bottom flatter this body type. Opt for skirt styles that are straight or flare out. Avoid pin-striped dresses with empire waistlines.
  • Curvy
Choose fitted dresses with defined waistlines to show off your curves in all the right places. Low-cut necklines also flatter this frame.
Have fun and always remember to be fashionable.
